GitLab Adds Compromised Password Detection for Enhanced Account Security
GitLab.com accounts now benefit from an automated compromised password detection feature, preventing the reuse of passwords leaked in data breaches.
Strengthening GitLab.com Security with Compromised Password Detection
GitLab continues to prioritise your account security by introducing a significant new feature: Compromised Password Detection on GitLab.com accounts. As of today, GitLab.com now checks user passwords against a continually updated database of known compromised passwords sourced from security breaches and data leaks around the web.
When signing up or updating your password, GitLab will automatically verify that the entered password has not appeared in public data breaches, significantly reducing the risk of account hijacking through credential stuffing attacks. This check is seamless, with no impact on user experience, and respects user privacy by conducting the verification process securely and anonymously.
In the coming weeks, this protective feature will extend to password resets and future login attempts. If your current password has been identified as compromised, you will be prompted to reset it, ensuring that your GitLab account remains protected at all times.
This powerful enhancement forms part of GitLab’s broader commitment to user security and best practices.
